About My Art
I have crocheted for most of my life. In 2000, I discovered freeform crochet and knew I had found my happy place.
In simple terms, freeform is crocheting without a pattern. As you can see from some of the pictures, my style is very organic and abstract. I adore lace; therefore, much of my work has lacy components. Other themes that show up in my work are elements of nature, colors and symbols from the mid-century modern era all the way through my generation, the 1970s.
Working with plant based threads and small hooks produces sharp stitch definition, allowing texture and pattern to shine. Not to mention the amazing color variety available in crochet thread that allows me to create whatever I can dream up.
Earrings have always been my favorite accessory. Crocheting small, organic shaped motifs is my favorite things to make. Combining these two loves is a match made in heaven.
Because I don’t use patterns, no two pieces are exactly alike. Each earring will be unique; the pair will look similar—colors, shape, stitches—but upon further inspection their uniqueness can be seen.
To me, this speaks to the unique nature of each one of us. We may look symmetrical, but we all have one side of our body or one feature that is ever so slightly different. I think our beauty rests in the uniqueness of the parts that make up the whole.
I hope my work speaks to you so that you find your personal adornment.
